Rules, Eligibility, and Evaluation Pattern

The Daradia One-Year Fellowship Final Examination is designed to assess the candidate’s theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning, procedural skills, academic engagement, and professional conduct in pain medicine. The examination pattern has been structured to ensure fairness, transparency, and uniformity in evaluation.

Why this policy is published

Publishing the examination rules on the official website helps every candidate understand the requirements, eligibility criteria, mark distribution, and academic expectations well in advance. This supports transparency and allows candidates to prepare in a structured manner.

1. Total Marks and Examination Structure

The final examination shall be conducted for a total of 500 marks.

2. Theory Examination (200 Marks)

  • The theory section shall be conducted through a Kahoot-based multiple-choice examination.
  • Each correct answer shall carry 4 marks.
  • Each incorrect answer shall carry a negative mark of 1.
  • The purpose of this section is to assess conceptual understanding, factual knowledge, and decision-making ability in pain medicine.

3. Long Case / Viva Examination (100 Marks)

  • Two long cases (short printed history) shall be given.
  • Each long case shall carry 50 marks.
  • The candidate will be evaluated on clinical interpretation, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and discussion based on the questions asked by the examiners.

4. Practical Examination (150 Marks)

The practical examination shall consist of the following components:

A. Cadaveric Procedures – 100 Marks

Two procedures under C-arm and two procedures under USG on cadavers are to be performed.

Each procedure shall carry 25 marks.

B. Clinical Skills and Station Assessment – 50 Marks

  1. Clinical test demonstration on a volunteer, such as Appley’s grind test, straight leg raise test, or similar bedside examination methods – 10 marks.
  2. Instrument table: identification of instruments and related questions – 10 marks.
  3. Imaging table: X-ray and MRI-based interpretation – 15 marks.
  4. Drug table: commonly used pain medicine drugs and related questions – 15 marks.

5. Internal Assessment (50 Marks)

Internal assessment reflects the candidate’s sustained academic involvement and professional development throughout the fellowship. It is intended to encourage regular learning, scholarly activity, and meaningful participation in pain medicine education.

  1. Clinical conduct and performance: Professionalism, discipline, attitude, and performance during the clinical contact period shall be considered.
  2. Abstract submission: Submission of at least one abstract to a national or international conference in pain medicine is expected as part of the candidate’s academic development.
  3. Peer-reviewed publication: At least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal is mandatory. More publications shall bring more marks in the internal assessment.
  4. ICRAPAIN engagement: Participation in ICRAPAIN, Daradia’s flagship academic conference, reflects commitments to continuing education and academic exposure in pain medicine.
  5. Educational contribution: Regular sharing of case summaries, learning points, or educational content in Daradia Fellows social media groups is considered an important part of academic training, as it reinforces reading, reflection, and peer learning. More educational posts will bring more marks in the internal assessment.

6. Eligibility Criteria for Appearance in the Final Examination

A candidate shall be eligible to appear for the final examination only after fulfilling all of the following requirements:

  • Completion of 3 months of clinical posting and submission of the completion certificate. For international participants other than India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, the required clinical attachment shall be 6 weeks.
  • Submission of a completed and verified logbook documenting a minimum of 100 OPD cases and 30 interventional procedures.
  • Completion of at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal, along with either the published article or the journal’s acceptance letter.
  • Participation in at least one cadaveric workshop, with certificate attached.
  • Participation in a national or international conference and submission of an abstract to a national or international conference, along with participation certificate and/or proof of abstract submission for an upcoming conference.
  • Payment of the prescribed examination fee.

7. Examination Fees

  • First appearance: Rs 12,500
  • Reappearance: Rs 25,000

8. Examiners and Evaluation

The examination shall be conducted by designated examiners appointed by Daradia. Candidates will be evaluated objectively across theory, viva, practical skills, academic engagement, and overall professionalism.

9. Final Note

These rules are intended to maintain academic rigor and ensure that successful candidates demonstrate not only procedural ability, but also consistent scholarly growth, clinical maturity, and a serious commitment to pain medicine education.
